Chocolate can - and should - have distinction, complexity, tone and an unexpected flavor.

Drinking Chocolate

If your a true chocolate enthusiast (as I am) you also love drinking your chocolate. It reminds me of my childhood, spending cold winter mornings with a warming and delicious cup of hot chocolate.

These days I am just a bit more picky when it comes to my chocolate, the life of a chocolate maker!

So, after a seemingly long summer here, winter is finally coming. Im going to share a little secret for a delicious, creamy, very chocolatey hot chocolate. Use ground chocolate!

Most hot chocolates are made with cocoa powder, which has most of the cacao fat taken out. This makes it hard to combine with liquids and doesn't melt like you want it to. The simplest, most delicious ways to enjoy chocolate as a drink is to get a block of dark chocolate and chop or grate it into small pieces (we put ours in a food processor), leaving you with beautiful ground chocolate, ready to make hot chocolate with!

OUR THICK AND CREAMY HOT CHOCOLATE RECIPE

2½ cups of the milk/alternative milk of your choice

1½ cups dark chocolate, chopped.

Honey or sugar if you like it very sweet.

  1. Combine 1 cup of milk (and sweetener if using) in a large heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water.
  1. Add the chocolate to the hot milk and whisk to combine, keeping the bowl over the heat. Whisk the mixture until shiny, thick and well mixed.
  1. Slowly whisk in the rest of the milk, keeping it on the heat for another 4 to 5 minutes, until hot.
  1. Remove the bowl from the pot of water, pour the hot chocolate into mugs, and serve immediately.

Hello Millie, just yesterday morning I was looking out the window to the rain in our front yard and thinking how nice it was to finally have some hot chocolate drinking weather. I’ll try this with your chocolate because I’m also fussy.
